Job Summary:

The Wind Design Engineer will be responsible for the technical design, optimization, and engineering support for wind power projects from concept to detailed implementation. This role requires a strong understanding of wind turbine technology, wind resource assessment, electrical engineering principles specific to wind farms, and the ability to produce accurate and efficient designs that maximize energy yield and project viability.

Qualifications:

1.      B.E / B. Tech in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related field. Electrical is preferred.

2.      2-5 years of experience in wind power project design and engineering.

3.      Proficiency in wind resource assessment software (e.g., Windographer, WAsP, OpenWind) and electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP basic knowledge).

4.      Strong understanding of wind turbine technology, aerodynamics, and wind farm electrical balance of plant (BOP).

5.      Knowledge of relevant Indian Electrical Codes (IE Rules), IS Standards, CEA Regulations, and grid codes pertaining to wind power projects.

6.      Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

7.      Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

8.      Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Wind Resource Assessment & Micro-siting Support:

1.    Assist in the analysis of wind resource data (e.g., from met masts, LiDAR/SoDAR) using specialized software (e.g., Windographer, WAsP, OpenWind) to assess site wind potential.

2.      Support preliminary wind turbine micro-siting studies, considering terrain, wake effects, noise limits, and environmental constraints to optimize turbine placement.

3.      Conduct wake effect analysis to minimize energy losses within the wind farm layout.

Wind Farm Electrical Design:

1.    Design the internal electrical collector systems (e.g., 33kV/66kV lines) within the wind farm, including cable sizing, routing, and trenching layouts.

2.    Specify wind farm specific electrical equipment such as transformers (pad-mounted, internal to nacelle), switchgear, and protection devices.

3.    Develop detailed electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring diagrams, and protection schemes for the wind farm’s internal electrical network up to the main pooling substation.

4.    Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant Indian Electrical Codes (IE Rules), IS Standards, CEA Regulations, and grid codes.

Technical Specification & Component Selection:

1.      Evaluate and recommend suitable wind turbine generator (WTG) models based on site wind conditions, project specifications, and performance requirements.

2.      Prepare detailed technical specifications for various wind farm components including WTGs, transformers, switchgear, SCADA systems, and communication infrastructure.

3.      Review and analyze technical proposals from WTG manufacturers and other suppliers.

Foundation & Infrastructure Interface:

1.      Collaborate closely with civil engineers on the design of wind turbine foundations (e.g., gravity, rock anchor, piled foundations) and access roads, ensuring compatibility with WTG specifications and site conditions.

2.      Provide electrical design inputs for control buildings, substations, and other auxiliary civil infrastructure within the wind farm.

Energy Yield Assessment & Performance Modeling:

1.      Perform detailed energy yield assessments for proposed wind farms using industry-standard modeling tools, accounting for wake losses, availability, and electrical losses.

2.      Analyze performance data from operational wind farms and identify areas for optimization.

Documentation & Permitting Support:

1.      Prepare comprehensive technical documentation packages, including design reports, drawings, specifications, data sheets, and calculation reports.

2.      Support the permitting process by preparing necessary technical drawings and responding to queries from authorities and utility companies.

Collaboration & Support:

1.      Work closely with Project Managers, Civil Engineers, Site Execution Teams, and Procurement to ensure design integrity, constructability, and seamless project execution.

2.      Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance during the construction, installation, and commissioning phases of wind projects.

Continuous Improvement:

1.      Stay abreast of the latest advancements in wind turbine technology, wind energy best practices, and relevant regulatory changes in India.

2.      Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and enhanced system performance for wind farms.
